Twenty-first century city
There's something special about London... The complex, ever-changing urban environment within a twenty-first century city for many photographers can be overwhelming - the infrastructure and architecture, the culture and society, the decision-making and timing. All of which play a part in the shots that you have in mind. Sometimes it's best just to roam and take a piece of inspiration from each borough you happen to visit... Try something new/different, get out of your comfort zone and explore the settings on the camera to set it up to match the conditions that are available to you at that particular time. On this trip, I packed two lenses - the 18-140mm and the 10-20mm, both extremely versatile pieces of kit and remain to be firm favourites for a wide range of subjects/conditions. Like most of my photography missions - I arrived quite early. It just gives me a chance to explore some parts of the capital during the quietest part of the day. There were a couple of opportunities to try something a little different which might have worked with the correct lighting. I'll return to those particular spots again soon and see if luck is on my side...
The transition to mirrorless over the past few months has been a slow process for me, but a worthwhile learning curve. Electrical/mechanical camera equipment continues to advance at a rapid pace, which provides a sense of intrigue and improves awareness of new techniques to practice. Nikon has been very good to me over the years and I look forward to what the future brings with their ongoing technological advances...
