Roaming the Roman City

The preparations for an early morning photography trip during summer can be considered a little... Odd! Truthfully, I do enjoy getting up in the middle of the night and making my way to a location of interest, something I'm sure most people will never understand...  The feeling of anticipation and excitement of the unknown when arriving, even if you think you’ve made the most detailed of plans - the element of surprise will always catch us photographers out! I spent the majority of dawn roaming around the city waiting for sunrise. With the golden light tones approaching - it became apparent that this window of opportunity possibly wouldn't last long - with a thick cloud cover looming on one side of the city. I had to scramble to find a unique composition with careful consideration. I’ve now limited my backpack down to two lenses nowadays - it helps me focus (no pun intended) and be more decisive without the feeling of being overwhelmed during a trip. Having explored a number of spots, the city seemed very peaceful and quiet.

I was also very lucky to view the mechanics of the Bath Abbey clock from the inside after an email from a contact within the Abbey itself - being a typical tourist yet again…
