No palm trees in Lynmouth

A personal favourite spot of mine. I usually find myself in Lynmouth at least a couple of times a year, not always documenting it - I think we all have that 'special place'. In the past, I have rarely ever taken a photograph at this location, usually surfing it (it's boulder bottomed, and it's more like rock dodging at times). On this rare occasion, I decided to make this trip more photography based and to sacrifice those peeling left-hand waves for once... The surf here rarely works, but when it does - it’s special. Very special! Arriving at dawn, walking through the nearby woodland, the mid-morning winter sun was beaming - although it didn't last long. There was no sense of warmth either and it was very quiet. Working my way around the harbour, a couple of surfers were chasing the waves. The sense of envy hit me - although it was rather peaceful and nice take in the surroundings for a change without hurrying myself to chase that next elusive left-hand peeling glassy wall…

Coastal visits during the winter are typically my favourite for many reasons. Having spent a full day here this time around, I think I drove away with a new sense of appreciation for Lynmouth - even though this is and always will be my 'special place'...
